Smash Bros. Brawl Metaprediction
Recent comments from the producer of Super Smash Bros. Brawl reveal that he does not want Snake to be the only non-Nintendo character in the game, but if he can manage it, it will only be “one or two” more outsider characters. He also added that the characters must have appeared on a Nintendo platform previously.
So, since the name of this site has the word “future” in it, it’s our duty now to tell you who they’ll be. And who they ought to be.
First, from Capcom, it’s Viewtiful Joe. Some would say Megaman is the pick, but Joe’s status as an initially Nintendo exclusive character puts him over. Plus Megaman is already played out from the _____ vs. Capcom fighter series.
Who it should be: Phoenix Wright. He’s got that pointing finger attack from kung-fu’s deadly zha kyu zu style, and he’s got more iconic sound effects and music.
And of course the other additional character will be Sonic.
Who it should be: Well, maybe Sonic. But I say forget Sega and go with Mr. Driller from Namco. That drill could wreck all.

I, too, feel that Mega Man won’t be the character and that Sonic will be the shoo-in. But I swear, my gut is screaming out “Simon Belmont.”

I’ve always throught that a lawyer could make an interesting choice with a brawl game. Sure, there’s the “kung fu” hands of Phoenix Wright, but imagine the other attacks:
Briefcase as main weapon - sure, there is the Kung Fu finger, but I’d see him beat people off with his briefcase more.
Throwing a gavel (this is where you could hear him shout “Objection!”.
Red Tape Bind: A slew of red tape erupts from his fingers, binding his enemy temporarily so he can unlease attacks
Turnabout Case Attack: His Ultimate attack (like we saw Link or Mario do from the trailer). His face drops as he becomes pale and
despondant - but then he slicks back his hair, pops open the
briefcase, and out comes a torrent of papers that flatten his
opponents.
I’d love to see it. Now, my choice for the other character? How
about a Dragon Quest slime? It’s been on Nintendo consoles for some time, and would add the total “kill, but cute” factor. Odds are, though, it will be the damn Monkey Ball monkeys.
