I especially loves this quote:

We really wanted to do this with the PS2. But now Apple has realised a successful e-distribution program, it's about time we made our move, too.

Yeah, Apple is doing it with music and trouncing us mercilessly in the process, because we were unable to update our antiquidated business model, so we'll go and do just that with the world of online gaming.

Obviously, Sony still suffers from Apple envy.

Maybe someone told him that the iTunes Music Store allows you to download free music, because I honestly don't understand how that comparison works.

Well, aiming and doing are two different things. However, I agree. Push comes to shove, Live goes free and MS laughs all the way to... well, maybe not the bank. But you get the idea.

I’m not sure MS has reason to make Live free.

I'm just saying if that Sony gives them one, they will. I don't doubt that Sony's service will have its own growing pains like Live did, but Sony is definitely aiming to match Live. Once they come close, Microsoft will turn on a dime— it's 100% certain. So it makes little sense for Sony to dangle this out like it means anything. But then, very little about the PS3 makes sense.

If PS3 online is free, then it's pretty much a given that it won't be as robust a service as live, which means it'll be crap in comparison. I'm not sure MS has reason to make Live free. If they did though, I'd almost feel sorry for Sony.
