If You Hate The Wii, You’ll Really Hate This

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

It belongs in a MUSEUM!
Because I think the Wii is great and I hate it. It’s called loopScape, but it should probably be called Super Dizzy Concussion Time. Run around the LED donut display so you can see your ship and dodge your opponent’s on-screen shots, while also dodging his off-screen careening fleshiness.

The one saving grace about this is that even though it’s a senseless mad science videogame-ish project, it somehow manages not to riff on Super Mario Bros. but rather Defender.

From the eternal compiler they rise/creating shelf clutter on either shore/ turning man against his gamepad/until he trades them in for $7-$24.

Here are the games arriving in stores over the course of this week. Mostly today.

Dear Blogtards,

Do not push this man's head into a turnbuckle. It will not have the desired effect.«This is you, Blogger McDumbblog. Hideo Kojima has been saying that the next Metal Gear game will be his last since before Sons of Liberty was released.

I think it’s safe not to tell people he’s said it again, no matter how much I wish he would get a multi-picture deal beyond his Metal Gear movie, so it would actually happen and he could do something he’s better at.

Rebukefully,
MJG

360 Dashboard Updates Tonight

Monday, June 5th, 2006

Take two.In about 3.5 hours, Live will start pushing the new dashboard to 360 users. The availability is staggered over four hours, so if you’re staying up late— well first of all, go to bed, and second of all, don’t panic if you don’t get any prompt right at 2AM Pacific.

There’s a lot of good improvements, like queueing multiple demos and other Marketplace goodies to download in the background (and pausing the download if you’re playing a multiplayer game), letting your custom music continue to play as a game loads (and pick up where it left off if the game overrides custom soundtracks). You know, stuff that actually takes advantage of the multi-processor architecture.

Then there’s the ones that really, really should have been there all along, like the audio player remembering its volume settings or the DVD player bookmarking where you left off when a disc is ejected.

Then there’s the scary ones like “Better support for Xbox 360 game disc recognition”.

Speaking of Smash Bros.

Monday, June 5th, 2006

Somebody went through a lot of effort here to re-enact the Brawl E3 trailer using create-a-wrestler. You’ve probably got to be a WWE fan to truly appreciate, though.

SPOILER: booyaka booyaka/6-1-9/booyaka booyaka/that’s my codec.

Smash Bros. Brawl Metaprediction

Monday, June 5th, 2006

It is a mystery.Recent comments from the producer of Super Smash Bros. Brawl reveal that he does not want Snake to be the only non-Nintendo character in the game, but if he can manage it, it will only be “one or two” more outsider characters. He also added that the characters must have appeared on a Nintendo platform previously.

So, since the name of this site has the word “future” in it, it’s our duty now to tell you who they’ll be. And who they ought to be.

Screenshots Now Have Negative Usefulness

Monday, June 5th, 2006

This is gonna get uglier than an Ayn Rand disciple writing for Gamespot.Actually, that’s probably been true since Doom 3. But now that that level of technology has caught up with the rest of the industry, we’re seeing more and more screenshots of games using rendering techniques that are tuned for motion looking very bad in a screenshot.
